ENSO SHOTOKAN KARATE Coach & Volunteer, 2011-Present

Enso Black Belt WomenI have been a student of Shotokan Karate since 2008. Since 2011, I have helped the dojo with marketing strategy and content creation on a regular basis. Since 2014, I have served as a substitute instructor for youth classes with 10-30 students aged 5-17.  And since 2015, I have been coaching student-athletes on the Enso Elite Tournament Team, which brings ~20 students to major tournaments throughout the country.

ILLINOIS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY COUNCIL FOR WOMEN, 2010-2014

Studies have shown that while young women enter college with talent and enormous potential, they do so with less confidence than their male counterparts. This Council of alumnae was established to help change that for current female students at Illinois Wesleyan. Council members serve as mentors, advisors, connections to internships and more. While a member, I visited campus twice annually, once for a Homecoming planning session and once for a Spring summit that brought together female students, faculty, staff and alumnae for a 2-day conference focused on women’s issues at school, in the workplace, and in the home.

MIDWEST PESTICIDE ACTION CENTER, 2010-2013

I served two terms as a Board member and as Secretary of the Board for this small non-profit that is dedicated to reducing the health risks and environmental impacts of pesticides by promoting safer alternatives. Learn more at MidwestPesticideAction.org.

PRO BONO WEB SERVICE

I have designed and maintained websites for several small family businesses and non-profit organizations, as requested by friends, family members and random acquaintances.
